About page privacy

This article explains the differences among the various page privacy levels in MindTouch and how they affect end users and internal users.
 

Page privacy levels


The table below lists the MindTouch page privacy settings and permissions:

Privacy settings  User impact
Public
  • Page can be searched for and navigated to.
  • All visitors can view page.
  • All pro members with global draft contributor role or higher can edit page.
  • Search engines can index and list page.

Page permissions CANNOT be granted on public pages. Anonymous users and community members can only view these pages, and pro members can only fulfill the role they are assigned to in the control panel on the pages.

Semi-public
  • Page can be searched for and navigated to.
  • All visitors can view page. 
  • Only pro members who are granted page permissions with draft contributor role or higher can edit page.
  • Search engines can index and list page.
Semi-private
  • Page is hidden from navigation and search results in MindTouch.
  • Visitors can view the page only by entering its URL into a browser address bar or via a link from other pages.
  • Only users and groups who are granted page permissions can find the page via navigation or search results.
  • Only pro members who are granted page permissions (draft contributor role or higher) can edit page.
  • Search engines cannot index and list page!  

If a user clicks the previous/next page links leading to a semi-private page, the user will be able to view that semi-private page.

Private
  • Page is hidden from navigation and search results in MindTouch.
  • Users without page permissions cannot view page.
  • Only users and groups who are granted page permissions can find the page via navigation or search results.
  • Only pro members who are granted page permissions (draft contributor role or higher) can edit page.
  • Users without page permissions cannot view page.
  • Search engines cannot index and list page!

 

How page privacy affects your site privacy


Your site's privacy is not in any way affected by your page privacy levels. Whether your site is public or private, the same rules apply.

 

How page privacy affects your user or group roles


Page privacy Effective roles
Public The global roles assigned to your contributing users and groups in the control panel take effect on the page.
Semi-public
Semi-private
Private
The roles assigned via page permissions take effect. For group roles, the highest assigned role takes effect on the page.
