Best practices for creating Learning Paths

Build your Learning Paths with maximum usability.

While Paths are not searchable themselves, you can embed a Path within a page that is searchable.

Path title

Your path name should be a succinct description of the Path's purpose. Users should know what to expect before clicking through.

After a path name is saved, the associated URL cannot be changed. A URL can be reused only when the original path is deleted. Make sure your URL naming convention is specific enough, so that naming does not become a challenge when you create additional Paths.

Page summaries

Page summaries act as a bulleted overview of your entire Path. Aim for consistency in voice and messaging.

Page count

Provide enough detail to accomplish the prescribed objective described in your Path summary without overwhelming users with unnecessary content. Path Manager allows a maximum of 30 pages per Path.

Page restriction consistency

Consider the restrictions on each user accessing your success path. If the success path is displayed on a public page, then it is smart to make path pages public-facing as well. Likewise, if users have access to some pages only and not others, users will only see those pages they have access to, potentially diminishing the impact of that path.

Final page suggestions

The last page of your path can be an article, or:

  • List of next step or additional Path options
  • Quiz or survey - follow instructions from your quiz or survey tool to embed it, and copy the HTML code onto the final page in your Path
  • Recommendations for associated products, features or services
  • Whatever you want to keep your customers engaged with on your site
  • Was this article helpful?
