Create numbered lists

Numbered lists are a great way to keep content organized and maintained. They are easy to scan through, and also eye-catching within a document. In HTML, these are known as ordered lists <ol>. The MindTouch editor outputs a numbered list order without having to manually enter it into the source mode. Numbered lists help break up content, allowing you to not have to read through multiple sentences to find the information you need.

Numbered list example

Once a numbered list is created, it will look similar to the example below:

  1. This is a number line
  2. This is another number line
    1. Test
    2. Test
    3. Test
      1. Test - A
      2. Test - B
  3. This is a third number line
    1. Aa
    2. Bb

You can change the text color in the MindTouch editor, though changing the color of the numbers themselves will need to be performed using CSS.

In order to create a numbered list, simply click on the numbered list icon in the WYSIWYG editor:

Add text on a new line without breaking the list

You have the ability to add text directly underneath the previous text while keeping the numbered lists in place. In order to do this, you will need to press shift + enter on the keyboard to maintain the text. Take a look at the example below for a better visual:

  1. This is a number line
  2. This is another number line. Press (Shift+Enter ) to start a new line
    <This is a new line>
    <Another new line>
  3. Pressing enter after a new line will continue the numbered list order
    1. Tab
    2. Tab

Reset a numbered list

You can reset the numbering of a numbered list by right-clicking in the list itself and selecting Numbered List Properties from the drop-down menu:

  1. This is a number line
  2. This is another number line
    1. Test - A
    2. Test - B
    3. Test - C
  3. This is a third number line

For this example, a new numbering scheme is defined for Test A, Test B and Test C.

  1. This is a number line
  2. This is another number line
    1. Test - A
    2. Test - B
    3. Test - C
  3. This is a third number line
