Site structure errors

The Structure Analysis Reports can contain Category errors, Guide errors, Topic errors, How-To errors, Reference errors, Unclassified errors, and customer or other errors.

We recommend you address Category and Guide errors before sub-page errors to resolve structure issues from the top down.

Category errors

  • Category under Guide
  • Category under Topic
  • Category under How-To
  • Category under Reference
  • Category under Unclassified
  • Category under Custom

To resolve: Move the Category underneath the lowest-level Category within hierarchy.

Guide errors

Guide under Guide

Option 1: Move both Guides directly under the lowest-level Category to make Guides siblings.

Option 2: Change a lower-level Guide to an article:

If the Guide is a parent to other articles, the Guide should be made a Topic. Otherwise, it can be made any article type (Topic, How-to or Reference).

  1. Change page type from Guide to Topic, How-to, or Reference.
  2. Remove Guide DekiScript (Navigation widget).

Guide under Topic

Option 1: Change Guide to Topic

  1. Change page type from Guide to Topic.
  2. Remove Guide DekiScript  (Navigation widget).

Option 2: Change Topic to Guide

  1. Change page type from Topic to Guide.
  2. Move both Guides to become children of the lowest level Category.
  3. Add Guide DekiScript to the new Guide. To do this, Add a DekiScript code block to the bottom of the Guide and add Navigation widget code.

Guide under How-To or Reference

  1. Change page type from Guide to Topic.
  2. Move the Topic underneath the closest Topic or Guide in its hierarchy.
  3. Remove Guide DekiScript.

Guide under Unclassified or Custom

  1. Change page type from Guide to Topic.
  2. Move Topic underneath the closest Topic or Guide in its hierarchy.
  3. Remove Guide DekiScript.

Topic errors

Topic under Category

Option 1: Change Topic to Guide

  1. Change page type from Topic to Guide.
  2. Add Guide DekiScript. Add a DekiScript code block to the bottom of the Guide and paste the navigation code.

Option 2: Move the Topic under nearest Guide within hierarchy

Topic under Topic
Option 1:  Make the Topic pages siblings.
Option 2:  Change the lower-level topic to a Reference or How-To page.

Topic under How-To or Reference
Option 1:  Move the Topic under the nearest Guide or Topic.
Option 2:  Change the How-to or Reference page type to Topic.

Topic under Unclassified or Custom
Option 1:  Move the Topic under nearest Guide or Topic
Option 2:  Change the Unclassified or Custom page type (from not set or custom) to Topic.

How-To errors

How-To underneath Category
Move How-to article to under a Guide.

How-To underneath How-To
Option 1:  Change the top-level How-to page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the bottom-level How-to under a Topic or Guide.

How-To underneath Reference
Option 1:  Change the Reference page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the How-to article underneath a Topic or Guide.

How-To under Unclassified
Option 1:  Change the Unclassified page type from (not set) to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the How-to article underneath a Topic or Guide.

How-To underneath Custom
Move the How-to article underneath a Topic or Guide.

Reference errors

Reference under Category
Move the Reference article to under a Guide.

Reference under How-To
Option 1:  Change the How-to page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the Reference article underneath a Topic or Guide

Reference under Reference
Option 1:  Change the top-level Reference page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the bottom-level Reference article under a Topic or Guide.

Reference under Unclassified
Option 1:  Change the Unclassified page type from (not set) to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the Reference article underneath a Topic or Guide.

Reference under Custom
Move the Reference article underneath a Topic or Guide.

Unclassified errors

Page has no page type
All pages on your site should include a page type association. If your page does not include a page type, expand Page settings and choose an option from the Page type menu.

Unclassified page not under Home page
Unclassified articles can only fall under a Category, and only if that Category is the Home page.

Option 1:  Move Unclassified page underneath the Home page. The Home page must be classified as a Category.

Option 2:  Classify the Unclassified page.

  1. Change page type from (not set) to the desired page type.
  2. Add appropriate DekiScript if the page is to be a Category or Guide.

{Custom} page errors

If an error pertaining to a custom page type surfaces, the report will list the error by the name of the custom page type.

Move custom article under a Guide.

{Custom} under How-To
Option 1:  Change the How-to page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the custom article underneath a Topic or Guide.

{Custom} under Reference
Option 1:  Change the Reference page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the custom article underneath a Topic or Guide.

{Custom} under Unclassified
Option 1:  Change the Unclassified page type from (not set) to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the custom article underneath a Topic or Guide.

{Custom} under Custom
Option 1:  Change the top-level custom page type to Topic.
Option 2:  Move the bottom-level custom article under a Topic or Guide.

Other errors

Page contains multiple page types
Sometimes a page will have multiple page types. To resolve this, change the page type classification to the desired type. If the classification is already correct, select an alternate page type, then re-select the correct page type.
