Search your site (SAP KC)

This article explains the search functionality in SAP Knowledge Central by MindTouch.

MindTouch search

MindTouch Search allows you to filter your search results based on the content structure framework. You can narrow your search results to only return articles within a Category, User Guide, or even filter based on the Article type (How-To, Reference, and Topic).

To start a search, put your cursor in the Search box in the upper right hand corner of the site and enter a search term/phrase and hit Enter.

This will then take you to the search results page:

By default the search results are ordered according to the MindTouch HelpRank algorithm which automatically organizes the search results based upon multiple factors including relevance and popularity of articles. You have the ability to elevate a search results based on common synonyms and different search phrases; to elevate search results follow our documentation on recommended search

Note to user   NOTE:  PDF files that are over 5 MB will not appear in search results if searched by its text content but will appear in search results if searched by the filed name or the .pdf extension.

Filtering your search results using MindTouch search

To facet search results, follow these steps:

  1. Enter a search term(s) into the search box in the corner of your MindTouch site and hit Enter.
  2. Click on any of the Categories and the search will automatically filter the search results to only show articles that match your search query within that selected Category.
    • Note that there are also breadcrumbs at the top of the search page that show the user what section of the site they are searching within.

To narrow further, you can select a Guide or Article Type (Topic, How-To, Reference) and the search results will update automatically.

Note to user   NOTE:  When navigated to any page other than the homepage within MindTouch, performing a search ensures that MindTouch Search will pick up your location and automatically filter your results to the nearest Category.

How to configure faceting

If Categories or Guides aren't showing in search results, make sure that you have an Article Type associated with it. You can change the Article Type by going to the page and changing the Article Type drop down. If a drop down isn't showing on the Category pages, you can add the following tag  article:topic-category  and it will show up in MindTouch Search.

Search within a path

When performing a search, the system will return results based on the path you performed the search from. For instance, if I'm currently on the following page:

When I perform a search, results will be returned for content within the User Guide I'm currently reviewing:

I can then facet to re-filter my search results as needed. When searching from the homepage, global search results will be returned to the user.

Special note

If the page you're currently on does not have an Article Type set, the search will return global results.
