This article reviews password requirements for creating or resetting passwords. Having a strong password reduces the chance of someone guessing your password, thus increasing the security on your site.
Create or change your password
Setting a password can be done in two locations, depending on your role: An administrator can set the password in the control panel, either when initially adding a user or later when editing a user. Users, on the other hand, can reset passwords in My preferences.
Choose a strong password
When setting or changing a password, make sure your password meets the following requirements:
- The password must be at least eight (8) characters in length.
- The password must contain at least two (2) of the following characters: lowercase, uppercase, number or symbol.
- The password cannot contain common dictionary words. Use a password generator such as strongpasswordgenerator.com or create variations of words with symbols and numbers, e.g. p@$$w0rd.
While entering your password, you are notified if you meet the above requirements. A green checkmark indicates requirements have been met; a yellow triangle indicates requirements have not been met.
