Dynamically update your external links via content IDs. Associate content IDs to URLs of your MindTouch pages whenever you want to add links for those pages to your external sites, emails or blogs (including contextual help). Should you later need to change the links, our content Id manager allows you to update the links in one fell swoop instead of having to find and add update each link manually (if you even have access to those locations).
Use it like a pro
You've probably noticed blue help links like this one throughout your MindTouch site. These help links all contain content IDs along with contextual help. We use contextual help to allow our users to view information without having to live their sites or systems. And what is great for us, is that by using content IDs, we can manage those help links from our support site without having to change the product at all! There are many ways you can leverage content IDs, whether it's just sharing a link through emails, blogs, external sites or by putting these help links directly in software systems like MindTouch does.
Accessing the content ID management tool
Administrators users can access the Content ID Manager by navigating to Site tools > Dashboard > Content ID Management:
Add content ID definitions
To set up content ID mapping, you need to establish a content ID. Add an ID as a string of letters, numbers or a combination of both. There is a 255-character limit for the length of a content ID description. In the sample below, "admin" has been added to the search and a description has been added that explains more about the ID:
After adding the ID and the description, click Add to display the ID and description in the table:
Once we have created content IDs, you need to create associations. The content ID acts as the unique value that we add to the end of the MindTouch URL in the following format:
http://example.comwith your MindTouch site URL.
3with the content ID that you set up.
- Associate the content ID with an article so that when the the above URL is entered, it will resolve to an article.
To set up an association for a content ID, click the Associations tab:
Here you will notice that the path for the content ID is blank. You need to set the path for the article that you want to resolve. We can do so by clicking on the pencil link the is in the far right column.
This will then present you with the association dialog for connecting the content ID with an article in MindTouch. There are two ways to associate a content ID with an article: (1) Navigate and select, or (2) Search. Below are examples of both steps.
Associate via navigation
The first option for association is to use the navigation that is presented in the dialog. You can expand the hierarchy to locate the article that you want to associate. In the example below our Administration Guide was selected as the article to associate. Clicking Use Selected the Content ID sample is associated with the Administration Guide.
Associate via search
The other way you can associate is to search for an article in MindTouch and associate the content ID with that article. To do so, click on the Search tab and enter a search term and click Search. This will return a set of results that you can select from and then click Use Selected:
Test the content ID mapping
Once you have associated the content ID with an article, you will see it mapped in the Associations tab. Now that it is associated, you can test it and confirm the content ID and association resolves. To do so, if we used the content ID we created "adminguide" append your MindTouch site URL with
?cid=adminguide. For example, if your site is
http://example.com, it would then read
http://example.com?cid=adminguide. This will redirect you to the associated page.
Filter content IDs
You have the ability to filter content IDs at the top of either tab by entering a search term or unchecking the Show mapped or Show unmapped checkboxes. As you add more content IDs, this will make it easier to filter out what content IDs still need associations.

We have the ability to add an additional parameter for Language so that you can have a single content ID with a language option to serve different articles. If this is of interest to you, please contact your account manager to learn more about how to enable localization in your MindTouch site.
