Remove MindTouch content from Google (MT4)

Over time, users may find that content indexed by Google may be out of date. In those cases, it may be necessary to request removal of MindTouch Content from Google. A perfect example of this would be an instance where an administrator deleted a page in MindTouch, and wanted to remove that page from Google's search results.

First Step

Site administrators can verify ownership of their site with Google, and then request URLs be removed or a site be fully reindexed for Google search purposes. To verify your site with Google, you will need to sign up for Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools)

Note: For Google to successfully verify your site, your homepage must be public, and your site must not be set to private.

Second Step

When verifying your site, several options are provided via Google Search Console Tools. To verify your MindTouch site, we recommend choosing the Alternate methods > HTML tag option show below:

Third Step

With this option, Google will provide you with an HTML meta tag to add to the <head> section of your site. An example is shown below:

<meta name="google-site-verification" content="XXX" />

To add this to your MindTouch site:

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > Branding > Custom HTML.
  2. Add the HTML meta tag provided by Google in Page HTML Head.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Return to Google Search Console to complete verification of your site.

What's next

Once your site has been verified by Google, please review Google's additional resources.
