Add a media repository (MT4)

This page applies to:MindTouch 4 and MindTouch TCS

This article will walk through how to setup a media repository for images that you'll want to reuse across multiple articles. After completing this tutorial you will have a page structure that you can attach files to that will be accessible to authors so they can reuse images across articles.

Install the Media Repository MTARC

Install the Media Repository MTARC at your homepage by clicking on Page Options > Import Here.

Click to download the Media Repository MTARC

Set permissions

In order to have the media repository pages accessible to your Pro Members, but hidden to your end users, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Media Repository.
  2. Click More > Restrict access.
  3. Select the Semi-Private option and add any authors/groups that you want to have access to be able to navigate to these pages. When you apply permissions, make sure you select to apply it to sub-pages, too if you've added any.

With your Media Repository set to Semi-Private, end-users will be able to view images that are attached to that page, but the Media Repository pages won't show up in navigation or in search unless users are explicitly added to the permissions list within the Restrict Access.

Identify a structure for ease of management

First identify the structure of the documenation that you are going to be creating. Once you have identified high level product categories, then create a mirroring page structure within the Media Repository where you'll be able to house the images/files that you want to reference.

Attach files

Now that we have the repository setup we can start attaching files to it that we want to use within our documentation.  Attach files to the page by dragging and dropping them or through the Attach file option at the bottom of the page. Once you have attached the files, then you can embed them within any article through the image dialog.

The following video will walk you through the steps needed to set up a media repository for your site.
